Highbury, Canonbury and Central Islington Highlights

This walk starts in Highbury Fields, then winds south either side of Upper Street towards the Angel.

Highbury, Canonbury and the areas around St Mary’s Islington and the Angel were all settlements centuries ago. This walk explores the influences of two ancient manor houses belonging to religious orders, a 17C water course, cattle sheds and centuries of livestock heading to market.

We will also walk past two historic churches, pretty Georgian terraces and squares, an art gallery, theatres and music halls, then hear about the coming of the railways, literary figures, at least three romances and more.

The walk covers just over 2 miles, will last 2 – 2 ¼ hours and end at Islington Green.
